What is Urgent Care and Why Should You Use It?

Urgent Care can tend to your pressing medical needs.

For most emergencies, including those that are life-threatening, people visit the emergency room in the hospital. For illnesses or injuries that do not appear to be life-threatening, urgent cares provide easy access to quality healthcare.  At Sand Canyon Urgent Care, our attention to detail and our commitment to our patients ensures that you always receive excellent medical care in a cost effective and timely manner.

When you or a loved one encounter a medical problem, it can be difficult to assess whether it’s an emergency or an urgent medical issue. Urgent medical conditions are not considered emergencies but still require immediate care. A few examples include:

  • Colds, flu, and other viral illnesses
  • Throat and sinus infections
  • Respiratory problems, including mild to moderate asthma
  • Broken bones
  • Sprains and strains
  • Eye injuries and emergencies
  • Lacerations
  • Abscess drainage
  • Foreign body removal
  • UTIs
  • STDs
  • Diagnostic services, including X-rays and laboratory tests

Bear in mind that urgent care is not a substitute for emergency care. If the ailment appears life-threatening, please call 911 immediately. Below are just a few situations in which you should head right away to the ER rather than to an urgent care:

  • Exertional chest pain
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Compound fractures
  • Heavy, uncontrolled bleeding
  • Moderate to severe burns
  • Poisoning
  • Serious head, neck, or back injury,
  • Convulsions, seizures or altered state of consciousness

For minor to moderate injuries and medical issues, visit Sand Canyon Urgent Care. If higher level of care is needed, our triage staff and/or providers will direct patients to the appropriate specialist, or to an emergency room for further treatment. Call us today for more information!
